A new paper discussing plasmon decay in metal nanoparticles has been published online in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C and can be found here. In this paper, a linear silver chain is chosen as a prototype of silver nanorods. The formation and evolution of transverse (orthogonal to the chain) plasmons has been studied through non-adiabatic Ehrenfest dynamics simulations. The results show that the different nature of the nuclear motions influences the plasmon dynamics in very different ways: in particular bending modes affect the plasmon lifetime promoting its decay while stretching modes do not affect plasmon’s fate. These results give a detailed and molecular knowledge of plasmon dynamics and are also very helpful for the design of more high performing devices.
